You can’t buy it directly, so it’s pointless to get the name of a company – which may or may not actually write business in your state.

What you need to do, is find a local, independent agent. You can locate one at . . . as a new business, or rather, with no prior insurance, you’re not going to get any of the standard companies to give you a policy, so you’re spinning your wheels calling State Farm, Nationwide, Allstate, etc.

The agent there can explain exactly what bonding is, and what it does – and does not – do for you.

As far as cheap, the cost of the bond will depend on the TYPE of bond – there are hundreds – and the penalty amount. You can count on it being at least $250. The liability insurance will probably run you around $1,000. If you’re looking for a $250 policy, it doesn’t exist, for your line of business.
